do to my love of ww2 history I found myself collecting dishes labeled occupied japan. Is there a market for these pieces? Are they worth anything or is this gonna be something just because I like them?

Certainly there are many with the same affliction ! This hobby brings you much joy and that in itself is cause to continue.
There will ALWAYS be someone looking to complete a set and possibly share notes....a friend to be had ?
I have been affected with a similar affliction...I have been collecting old flashlights and electric hand lanterns for the better part of 50 years......stopped counting at 370 beauties .
Enjoy your hobby and share the enthusiasm with others .
