I'm in the process of polishing a small bottle. It is vertically embossed with Whitehurst. Happened to notice that the base has four bumps or teats if you will. They are almost uniformly spaced but not quite. Result of mold irregularity? I have a 2nd twin bottle to this Whitehurst that has a smooth base.

Those points are usually described as the result of mold vents -- holes in the mold to allow air to escape as the bottle glass fills the mold. These points may be more or less prominent or may be entirely absent since some molds have the vents and some don't.

Harry be dead on. I see more vent marks on each of the embossed letters as well.
