It's a shame but after four years of digging down at the river bank dump known as the ink hole it's finally cleaned out. After spending a few hours down there today I have run out of ash and have hit a literal stone wall. This post is going to be a multi part post starting with inks. When I first found this dump I knew absolutely nothing about bottles at all but this is where I caught the bottle digging bug. One of the first bottles I ever found down at the ink hole was a wonky square Ink that I knew nothing about. But thanks to the bottle gurus down in the tnet basement it was Identified as a pitkin ink. Being a very rare find I dubbed it a diggers unicorn. It's amazing how anything could survive intact in this dump being filled with rocks and boulders. It's kind of odd that a site that was a known tavern from the late 18th century through the mid 19th century would wield so many inks. Some one was definitely literate and I wonder what they were writing. It's a head scratcher for sure maybe one I day I'll find out. But the following pictures are of the many inks I have found. All of the umbrella inks can be accredited to early CT glass houses such as coventry glass works, Willington, and westford glass works.
