Went back today to do the pit that was right next to the Drakes pit. This one bordered a property line so we were thinking a different privy owner. We were right!

Not too many roots here on this one as it was out in the open a bit more. Started out looking good again as we found a broken Thomas Electric Oil. A sand cap that looked to be about 3 feet deep saved us some good finds. I was in the 2 foot use layer and thought man we are hitting a ton of broken stuff and a few smaller bottles but nothing significant. Then blammo! I pulled out this very nice Heinz Noble Pittsburgh Pa pickle or horseradish jar. I’m thinking it’s fairly rare with the “N” in Heinz and Noble both backwards from the mold. Cool stuff. Then out pops a great looking applied top Umbrella Ink !! Wooohooo this is getting good!

Then it was Don’s turn. He pops up another ink. This time a cone Ink with Dovell’s Patent embossed on the side. Sweet find. But then as I was clearing away some dirt up top Don yells up at me and says “You are not gonna believe what I just found.” I looked down into the pit to see him holding a Schoolhouse Ink in perfect condition. Embossed Patent March 14, 1871 on the base! Unbelievable save ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508361254.425611.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508361270.273741.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508361286.923349.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508361303.108634.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508361316.199908.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508361336.747583.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508361351.666573.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508361362.936736.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508361372.692800.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508361387.356292.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508361400.536738.jpg from over 140 years ago!!! Yeah. Don closed it out turning up a juvenile size chamber pot in fantastic shape with no cracks and only a couple very minor dings. What a great two days of being a Digger. Wow, that’s all I can say at this point. Hope you guys are finding treasure out there. Be safe and good luck. Jgas.

Awesome finds jgas! The inks are super finds. Can't decide which I like the best but the patina on that schoolhouse is going to be terrific when you get it cleaned up. Please please take some clean-up shots later and post them(for all of them). Thanks for all the in situ shots and hats off to you and Don for 2 great days.
I'm sure you know already but when they made those old molds they would spell out the letters backwards and the letters N and E were the most common of the errors. For some reason they just couldn't wrap their brain around it and get it right.
Are any of those doll's heads dated?

Great stuff, but that little schoolhouse is off the chain. It looks fantastic just the way it is. Killin' it, Jgas!

Thanks for the replies everyone. That teal one is actually deep aqua. It’s a slick but still cool. The dolls heads were all unembossed. I hate to even clean that schoolhouse. The iridescence will all flake off for sure. It will be either light aqua or clear. That one floored us. We were both taken to school on that one. Lol. Jgas

Heinz Noble (Sharpsburg, PA) went bankrupt in 1875, so that is an old bottle you have there. Neat find! FWIW H. J. Heinz's birth home from Pittsburgh is now on display in Henry Ford's Greenfield Village in Dearborn, MI.

Here are some updates photos of the finds after I cleaned them up a bit. I think the schoolhouse ink looks kinda cool with the remnants of the ink and iridescence. That’s a child size chamber pot. They are always broken. Until this one. Some kid must have accidentally dropped it down the hole. No reason to toss it unless the kid grew out of it. There was a larger broken one in the pit as well. Thanks for the continued replies. Jgas
