Same Yard, more inks.

Back to the same yard as the school house ink and we knew we were going to get into an 1890s pit. Problem was is that we had to get underneath the driveway to do it. This part of the driveway was already crumbling and cracked apart so we just took out the bigger pieces like a puzzle to be able to replace them. But underneath the driveway was the older driveway that broke apart in small pieces. But as you know we are determined type diggers. Lol. So once we were through and at around 3 feet deep we re-probed and found that it went to around 9 feet deep. Got down to around 7 feet and started popping out some cone inks buried right next to the corner post. Then out drops the cool Sanford’s ink with the pen rest. After that Don got in and found a somewhat cryer in the Gladstone’s Celery and Pepsin Compound. Big hole in the base. Ugh. But on he went to find several slicks and some older meds. A Japanese Tea pot which is broken was another cryer. After we hit bottom we always search the wall area in case we missed something on the way down. Rewarded by doing this I located a nice amber beer and a Hoods Sarsaparilla. Not too bad to finish up this yard. Unless I go back and I find a sleeper pit somewhere on the property that I may have missed. Oh and I will try to find another!!! Good luck and happy digging everyone. Jgas.

Great post as always Jgas. You have become a master privy digger and have a system that is nearly perfect. I really enjoy the photos you continue to show and all the whole and broke pcs that come out. You ever wonder why the best bottles in the pit are always broken? Hate that the Gladstones is broken. The inks are great and the Hood's as well. The amber beer is great icing on the cake. That looks like the larger size. Keep doing what you do and sharing with us. Some of those to the far right look a little tall for inks. Are some of those glues by chance?

Here is my cabinet of things I just can’t seem to get rid of just yet. A lot of the things go up for sale to get them in the hands of really true collectors. I mainly like flasks and pepper sauces. I do hang on to the unique ones. But space is limited sooooo, gotta rotate stock so to speak. Jgas.

The little notes tucked away inside some of the bottles, are those ads from long ago you printed or a little history lesson for each bottle? I print old ads from archived almanacs and such and roll them up and stick inside my bitters and cures, etc

Yeah the notes are the types of flasks. Since there are so many. Same with masons. Wow. How does anyone figure all those out? And to be morbid, I do that just in case so my wife can have an idea as to what they are and how much to get for them if I’m not around. Jgas

Yes, and the embossed aqua flask, same row, in the middle

The Soda was a major cryer for us. This is a super rare one from LaPorte Indiana. I had to piece it back together. There were two smashed and two other emerald green ones that were also smashed. This was the only one we could piece together somewhat. Iron Pontil. Christmas flask is neat with the belt like Santa Claus’s belt. And then the pikes peak was a decent find either the apple green flask right behind that from Fall City Glass works. Jgas

Oooff, a cryer indeed. That thing is absolutely beautiful. Kudos for putting 'er back together though! I love the embossing on that one. The other stuff is great too. I think I remember when you dug that Christmas flask!
