Well today up for your viewing pleasure and late season digging enjoyment we have a couple things that went on today. First up was what I thought originally was an ash pit next to a huge tree. Started out on that one by myself until Don showed up a bit later. Got everything set up nicely and cut the grass out to start my trek towards the center of earth. Got down about a foot and hit a trash area full of broken plates and meat pots. All blasted without one single bottle. Strange as I kept digging and nothing more was showing. Don shows up and he starts digging and all we are seeing is river rock and some pea stone type debris. No more glass. So we probed it again to find that there was no more pit left. I guess whatever I was feeling was just the small trash layer. Ugh, we get fooled now and again. Oh well fill her up and move on. Good thing I had another just a few yards away.

So off to the next pit we went. Had to clear out a massive amount of small trees to give us a space to lay the tarps. So downward we went and just like the other yard I was beginning to believe I was going to get skunked twice for the first time in my digging career!!! A bunch of river rock and gravel. So, decided to probe again. But this time the rod was going through a soft spongy layer that had a nice gap. Indicative of a use layer. Don removed some of the overburden and fill dirt. He located several pipe bowls and saw some shards of glass as well. I took a shot at it and was nicely rewarded with Mr. Carter!!! A very nice applied top Carter’s master ink. Cool color. Then right next to that was a Rumfords Chemical Co. Another cool color. I was seeing the colors of the rainbow as pieces of cobalt started showing up. Although these were ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1510089386.993060.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1510089399.827892.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1510089413.396993.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1510089425.432304.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1510089439.747727.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1510089451.865773.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1510089465.500568.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1510089481.069674.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1510089500.557092.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1510089521.010890.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1510089536.176236.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1510089549.145004.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1510089562.382909.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1510089581.567393.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1510089592.738187.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1510089603.436733.jpg just shards.

Then Don was back at it as he found what appears to be a small milk glass trough with a dogs head sticking out the side. What the heck could that have been I do not know???

He found more pipe bowls and some smashed fruit jars as well as a cryer mini mason with the Maltese cross. Ugh. Then he located what was the cobalt cryer! New York Pharmacal Association. That was it for him. He was not a happy Digger at that point. I went back in and found my cryers. Two pint blob beers from Corning New York. One from Valentine Rettig and the other from Albert Falk. No clue as to how good those would have been. I may make drinking cups out of them. I did manage to find 4 complete pipes. That dude had issues losing pipes! All in all not a bad day and what the heck. We didn’t get skunked twice Mr. Carter!!! Happy hunting everyone. Stay warm and safe out there. Jgas

Now we're talking! Congratulations on the master ink, that's a super find. The milk glass thing is really cool, whatever it is! Really sorry about those criers. The pipes are an added bonus and why the heck are they intact? Doesn't add up. Do you think the Mrs was throwing them down the chute when she caught the old man smoking? Also strange how you have all this New York glass in a Missouri pit. Great stuff jgas

Hey Bass just to let ya know this was a dig in northern Indiana. Crazy travelers even back then. I’m thinking the pipes were tossed like you said. No more smoking for you mister. Tossed. Digging another pit tomorrow. Fingers crossed for more stuff. Jgas

Those are some really nice finds! Could that milk glass be a trinket box/ring holder box?

Here are some update pics of the dog milk glass. We dug the pit right next to where we found the dog face milk glass thing. Low and behold the top was in the other pit. Crazy. It has some antlers missing and something behind the dear head. But I thought the sword and rifle was cool. The only keeper in this pit was the NK Browns essence of Jamaica ginger. Not much to this pit but it was fun to find the top of the trinket chest. Well, whatever it was it belonged to the man of the house. Could it be a tobacco dish?
