1860's property whiskey bottles

I love these three piece mold bottles from my permission. The story goes that the woman there had 20 children. She delivered them herself. When the time came she would grab a bottle of whiskey and go to the woodshed. The present owners said when they bought property way back, there were a bunch of whiskey bottles in the woodshed. Didn't she ever clean up? At any rate I have the bottles and still looking for more. There was an attached privy room with plastered walls. I just discovered the stone vault that was under the room. There is a crawl space under the house as well as a raised plank floor in the barn where they kept the horses. Could be bottles under there from the original construction. Any way, here's the bottles.

About 40 years ago when I was young, the farm up the street sold as the owners passed and the new owners cleaned out the barn and threw it all in a pile and then raised the barn.
On my walk home from school I saw the pile and crossed the barb wire fence into the field and took a look and found a very old whiskey bottle with the cork and the paper label torn a little and coming off but still intact. I should get that out of the box it's in and take a pic.

Hey Crusty, I went there today. Here is your Pic..



It is 4 feet from the top brick to the material surface and only 2 feet of vertical space inside. I assume the bricks at one time extended upward inside of the bench seat. The material in the bottom is very hard and dry. I worked a probe into the material a foot and didn't touch anything. I got down on the ground and reached down with my camera. This pic is looking away from the house.




I often wonder why folks would go to all the trouble to dig a privy pit or a vault only to fill it with bottles and trash. Maybe it is just the way they did things.
