Once upon a time there was a sapling of a Maple tree. The story began nearly 130 years ago when an early resident decided to start a small tree near the base of his newly built outhouse box. He admired the little guy as it grew along with himself, his family and children. The homestead saw seasons come and go and behold the sapling was now a tree. Growing with the trade winds, the tornadoes of yesteryear blew this old tree now into a twisted sort. Losing limbs along the way. Seeing forts built within, the season of fall brought tears to the grandfather and great grandfather who built the home, planted the tree and watched as the leaves fell and the tree appeared to die each year.

The Box stood strong next to The Twisted Maple. If the trees could talk you can imagine their conversations season to season as they watched people come and go from The Box. “ Hey what are you carrying into that box and not coming out with?” “ Every day I see you guys carry bottles into that box, but you carry nothing out. “ Hundreds of bottles have seen that Maple for the last time. Tossed into the Abyss. It’s strange and yet funny how those bottles have tickled the feet of that Twisted Maple for a hundred years. And yet now, finally after these years and this fall season The Twisted Maple looks alive as we breath new life into these glass vessels that once carried cures, relief, and virtually life into the inhabitants that brought them to The Box. The Twisted Maple thanked us for the visit and we thanked it for telling his story of his life from sapling to tree.

And now prepare yourselves, you glass hounds, treasure seekers, the sickness of the digging cannot be healed. But our thirst was quenched as you can see. Have fun out there folks. When ya get a chance, enjoy the fall, enjoy nature and just go crazy and talk to a tree. It will give you what you seek. Jgas. Oh, it's you again... Whatever, man!

In all seriousness though, thanks for the story and the pictures, and congratulations again. You got so many good ones, and I love the straw marks and patinas on all of them. Awesome.

What a loaded pit! Could they even fit any human waste in there?

That was a nice dump JGAS. Lots of unbroken ones. What is the age frame. Looks like some older ones up until the 20's.Like that side ink well. Always enjoy your write ups and hunts.

As a bottle hunter, and an urban logger, that story was great to me. Congrats jgas!! I love the pic with the bottles around the trunk.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Hey Tn I’d say the range on age was from around 1892 to 1905 if my guess is correct. Most everything with the embossed ones suggest 1895 average. The pit that was in front of it was a bit older into the 80s. Jgas.

What a great fall dig. I like your approach and the landing was even better. Meds galore. Did you find any bottles that were NOT embossed? Lol. Wow, what a great day you had. The weather looks like it was nearly perfect for digging too. I like the Knickerbocker & Moody, the inks and the hutch. Thanks for all the photos
