Original settlers - my ancestors = went for a bottle dig yesterday

My neighbors son came up yesterday, and we dug some bottles. I didn't keep but three - gave him all he found, and some I'd found. Yeah, maybe I should have been greedy, but that's not me = and Nick had an absolutely great day of it. Maybe I changed his life a bit, certainly brightened my world for a day or so. Here's what I came away with:

Actually, I'm surprised he hasn't knocked on my door yet this morning! He's a very good person, and I've a thing for his Mom. That is not in the cards though. There's more hiding up this holler, and that bottle dump was from the 40's - where's the others from the earlier 200 years?

I went back up yesterday and found one jar with an unknown jelly-like substance inside. I haven't tried to open the jar, the lid is awful rusty.

You're right, though I do have a flawed memory system anymore, could have been an alka selzer bottle. Funny, my room isn't huge, and now I can't find my new toys Had them yesterday for the pictures.... Next week I'll probably start drooling & slobbering.....

I went up again a couple days ago, got this late 1940's 1/2 gallon Clorox jug



Still more up there.

Today my neighbor and I went up to the top of another mountain and I saw the grave of my great great grandfather for the first time. It was a whole lost graveyard - no road access - with 29 graves there. Most headstones were just rocks, but my gggrandfather had a carved headstone. Next time I go up I'm taking a camera. The carved stones were from the 1800's.

wow thats pretty incredible that your great grandpa has been just up the mountain....would love to see that picture when you take one. I have a thing for the old bleach bottles. Got quite a few. Good stuff deep !!

Just now went back to my two bottle dumps and took more pictures.

It will be sometime in the hopefully near future before I return to visit the graves - quite a walk up the mountain and I sure don't want to stroke out in the heat or get snake bit (again - first time I was 12). I didn't take my camera as I didn't expect to go up there. Neighbor's son showed me the way up there.

These bottle dumps date from the 40's to the 50's, and there are two sites - maybe more I haven't found yet. Where's the ones for our earlier two centuries here?

I myself love those bottles....i have a pretty big collection of bleach bottles. Everyone always goes to see them first. People are amazed that bleach came in glass bottles !! What a mess if someone ever dropped one. Looks like there's a bit more digging up there.....so cool that your digging up your family history !! Good luck and happy hunting deepseeker !!

After going at this for a couple of weeks now, I now know there's a 3rd and perhaps 4th dump site. Just have to figure out where they're at now. I know about where one of them is - an outhouse behind my house - pretty deep as I recall. I put the inside toilets in here in 1982.
