Hello all treasure fans it’s been a long time since turning up some soil and glass. Doing a ton of research over the winter months to prepare for this years digs. I have about 3-4 places lined up to get things started.
First up is a house that is currently in the market and will sell soon. The owner says as long as it doesn’t sell then we are good to go for digging. So we had to act fast. Let alone the time it takes to get the utilities marked. With no sale pending I went and probed out two possibilities. The home was built in 1892 so a good time span for a couple privies.

Located one under an existing foundation that was constructed some time after 1917. So I knew this one to be at least that old. Cut out the grass for replacement and started our digs.

Can you so Holy Moly? Talk about bottle after bottle. Appears to be a trash pit and not an actual privy. But I’m not hating on a trash pit that’s for sure. It was one right after the other. Mostly common ones like Hoosier Cream Tiger Exports and Monarchs from Chicago. But it was fun seeing glass again. Pulled out a huge picnic beer unembossed. Some meds, slicks and wine bottles along the way. I think I counted at least 70 bottles or more when I lost track. Crazy. All dating to the time of around 1900-1915. Pulled out a coveted blob beer locally. That was a good one for us. And several pint blobs. All in all it was a blast to see all the bottles again. And look forward to the actual privy a few feet away for the next dig. Have fun out there folks and be safe as always. Jgas. WOW, I think there was more bottles than poop. Looking forward to my first privy dig when the ground thaws.

Hey unclemac, most of these are really common bottles. Most I leave for the home owner if they want them. Some go back into the pit. And of course some go into our collection of local stuff. I do sell a few if I don’t really collect them. Or I trade for others. This was a lot of bottles for one pit for sure. Hope this luck continues this season. Thanks for the replies everyone. Jgas.

Gas & Co , Congrats on a great first pit of the year !!!!! I have had a few pits like that , one of them we had to lay on the edge to dig or else we would have been standing on a floor of glass . Another one I cut the first shovel of grass and out popped 4 bottles , that pit was literally all bottles from top to bottom and side to side :) . I do have one ? ,,,,, What , no Peak flask ! :)

Hey Pikes. Yeah I wish. We are well overdue for a historical flask for sure. We will keep plugging away at it. Jgas
