Today, for the first time, I hunted a property other than my own. It is several acres that belongs to a family friend. All of these were found in a hole no bigger than a foot in length, six inches wide, and six inches deep. I started finding pieces right under the surface but the deeper I dug, the bigger the pieces got. I was only able to spend about 45 minutes at the site today. I have been given permission to return any time, any day.

My friend told me that when her husband cleared the land about 35 years ago, about 200 pine trees were taken out. She said a lot of them left big holes in the ground, and that he brought dirt in as fill. She did not know from where exactly, other than it was "from town (Madisonville)." I do not know if this is "original" dirt, or part of the loads that were brought in.

I guess what I am hoping to find out is if these are in fact old, and if there were liqour, medicine, etc. Thank you in advance for having a look.

These are pieces of some sort of jug. The first pic in one side, the second pic in the other, and the third is part of the maker's mark from Holland. Does anyone recognize it?

These are bits and pieces from a bottle than I can only describe as being a light purple in color.

These are pieces of a bottle that almost clear but has a hint of purple in it.

Here are some bits that are a light blue color.

The first picture is some clear glass. The second shows what could be the bottom of a glass stem and some sort of decrative glass.

These are bits of dark brown and dark green glass, with bottle tops.

This looks like part of a large rim to the top of a purplish/bluish bottle.

I have keeping my fingers crossed that I have found a site with potential!

Can't be sure about everything you show but it appears that most of what you found is from no earlier than about 1920 or later than 1950. But... do not get discouraged... if you are on an old dump site the OLDER and COMPLETE bottles that you would like to find are probably just deeper than you have yet excavated. If the dump has not been disturbed in a major way than the bottles and glass you find should be like strata in a geological formation... the newest on top and the oldest on the bottom.

If the glass trail peters out when you dig deeper without any older finds than you are probably dealing with some of the fill dirt that you say was brought to the site to fill stump holes. That dirt may well have come from an old store site that had been torn down and was bulldozed... thats why all the pieces and no whole identifiable bottles.

Hope this gives you some food for thought and... good luck!
