    1905/15 Bottle Find?

    Hi,
I found a clear Owens-Illinois bottle at an old farmhouse site in Wisconsin. The bottle is 8" high and 2.5" at its widest point. The lower half is octagonal. The writing on the bottom is: "12 O/I (symbol) 5" along the top half. It looks like there is a "1" printed beneath the "5". "Duraglas" is cursive beneath that, and "E1643" below that. I would like to know if the "5" suggest the year (maybe the "1" beneath suggests 1915?), the possible value and history of the bottle use. Thank you for your help.

    Re: 1905/15 Bottle Find?

    Hi,
Through my Internet research of this bottle, I have determined my bottle described above is from 1945. The #12 indicates the Gas City, Indiana plant and #5 indicates the most right number of the year it was made. The Duraglas name is in cursive on the bottle, which was instituted 1940-1954. So, the year was 1945. The bottle was used for ketchup. Condiment bottles are quite common and worth little, but it is still interesting to find a bottle 60 years later in near mint condition! Thank you for your help. Keep hunting!
