BH Pioneer 505 with unstable target ID

New to the forum. I have a new BH Pioneer 505 with an unstable target ID. As long as the coin isn't over 2-3 inches deep the target ID and the sound are usually correct. A deeper target gives a reading a notch or two further to the right on the ID and a higher sound. For an example, a 3" deep zinc penny shows up as a quarter or a 3-4" deep nickel shows up as a dime with high pitch sound. I have the same results with bench tests outdoors. My 5 year old BH Pioneer 202 works great, no problems. Even swapped coils on the 202 and 505 but didn't improve target ID problem with 505. Anyone have a similar problem or have any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Anewjohn

    Welcome to Tnet.

Most of us have had these problems with these entry level detectors and soon upgraded to the better units.

Make sure it is ground balanced properly. That said, I've had 2 landstars which I believe are the same as the 505. One was dead on with the ID and the other was like you describe. The tone was accurate, but the VID wasn't.
