Re: BOUNTY HUNTER PINPOINTER is it any good????
Joe;
I have a Bounty Hunter pinpointer and besides the fact that it feels a bit like one of Wal-Marts better plastic flashlights, I am pleased with it. It is simple to use, having an adjustment knob at the base of the probe turn it to the place where the squeeling stops and its ready to go.
The 9v battery fits in the back and is closed by a locking cap. I would have wanted an o ring to seal it here but it just has a two pronged snap closure.
I tried it out as soon as the UPS delivered it and it helped me find a pocket knife that was lost 13 years before, without digging a large hole or cutting my finger (the blade was open, stainless steel ).
For the price it is a neat little deal. IT has even survived my daughter's dog (on the left, my avatar). the dog snatched it from my duffle bag and used it as a chew toy. After resisting the temptation to insert the probe into the other end of the dog and getting a replacement from Bounty Hunter customer service (another good point, the replaced it for free) it still works pretty good.
Overall I'm happy with it.

I forgot to mention, Bounty Hunter replaced the battery cap on my pinpointer after the dog(whom we've fixed yesterday, P.A.A.B!) chewed it. A phone call to Bounty Hunter and they replaced the cap at no charge.

Don't have one, but I have heard A LOT of bad reviews, never tried one myself though. Biggest complaint was the battery compartment.

Re: BOUNTY HUNTER PINPOINTER is it any good????
Been using this pinpointer for 3 years now. The green color is not a wise idea (I tend to forget where I have misplaced items) So I used orange electrical tape and taped the battery cover down good and the color helps in locating where I misplaced it .
I've used it to probe and expected it to snap, so far it hasn't. For $50 it is well worth it!

Re: BOUNTY HUNTER PINPOINTER is it any good????
ive heard good and bad things about it, but for $20 if it does anything at all it would be worth trying it out considering the price of a vibroprobe

Re: BOUNTY HUNTER PINPOINTER is it any good????
I just purchased one of these yesterday. price was very good shipped ( $35 brand new from a private seller). The reviews for it are mediocre because of the battery compartment coming off and lack of depth.
I will post back after I have actually used it. I personally bought it because the price was very cheap compared to most other pinpointers and the fact it will go with my BH TimeRanger.

Re: BOUNTY HUNTER PINPOINTER is it any good????
I received the BH pinpointer today and just gave it an air test. A quarter tested at 1", nickle not quite 3/4", penny 5/8" and a dime 1/2". The sensitivity knob was at max ( just to stop the beep). Again, this is just an air test but pretty weak numbers none the less.
I found the sound to be loud enough. The vibration to be weak and my battery box cover held firm.
I did notice that the battery box cover can be mistakenly installed. The shape is not symmetrical but without looking close, it appears the cover can be installed either way. I bet this is where a lot of folks were having problems with it coming off.
When the cover is installed right, you can clearly here it click into position.

Re: BOUNTY HUNTER PINPOINTER is it any good????
Iv had mine for a while with no problems....some say it doesnt go deep enough but think about it , if an object was farther away from the probe then its not pinpointing it, is it , I like the whole inch away thing my self ....it works fine

Re: BOUNTY HUNTER PINPOINTER is it any good????
One more thing, it was raining pretty good yesterday about an hour after I started going across this fresh plowed field and I fried my BH pinpointer from the rain, I dont know if the water came in though the battery cap or the knob that makes it squeel....but it be junk now ....Time to call BH....lets see if I can get a new one free...lol I have noticed that a gallon freezer zip lock bag fits this thing well, corner to corner and then a small rubber band middle of handle and your good to go .....A+++

I would say that if you open it up and dry it out for a couple of days air dry it should work again. I dropped my detector in the water when wadeing and opened it up let it dry out and worked like new same with my cell phone I MEAN DRY OUT 3 OR 4 DAYS. Spilled coffee on my TV remote let it dry out worked fine. No matter what they say i never saw any thing get fried from getting wet and i mean wet.

Rice will work, but silica gel works better. Buy it at craft stores in the flower drying aisle. It doesn't taste as good in Asian dishes as the rice though.
