I know its not one of your choices....but if I were starting out again with a $300 budget there would be no doubt...I would go with the Eurotech Pro with 11" DD coil for $299
Do yourself a favor and check this thing out!

Neither look at all the great used machines for about 300, Ace 350, Fisher F-5, Tec-4000, Tesoro Vaquero or Cibola White MTX all much better than the 2 you are currently looking at! Buy used it is not going to be someone else's problem that you are buying.
F2 with 11" DD coil or Xterra 305 what would you buy. Which gets more depth. Only looking to spend $300.00. Thanks for any input.

First what are you looking for? If relics I would go with vaquero. If looking for a dual purpose machine I would go with cibola. The f5 is also a good choice. Also where are u from. Depending on mineralization in soil you may have to choose accordingly. All named detectors are good choices but before we guess what would be best budget detector got to know location on which to to help with. If anywhere near Virginia I wouldn't go with cibola because of the auto discrimination. If somewhere with mild soil it would work great.

As the DiggerinVA said the Eurotek Pro with 11" DD coil is the best bang for the buck! If you decided on an Xterra at least get the 505 because of available coils(6" Digger does not work on the 305).

Just remember if you do buy a used machine I would check it out good first. And stay away from ebay.

I live in NJ & mostly just coinshoot. My son has an f2 & im giving my other son the ace 150. I dont really like the garrett. I may try to spend a little more maybe I will look at some used ones or go with the 505. I never even looked into the eurotek pro.

Hello sigshooter71,

I read you post and it appears Garrett is not you first choice company. You may want to research the Garrett AT Pro, it has the basic features found on the ACE series, but also has Pro Mode for the more advanced user. There is a learning curve, but not bad. I personally have the AT Pro and AT Gold in my detector arsenal, they serve me well for my needs. Also, detecting with your children, well, it doesn't get much better than that!

I wish you luck in your detector search!

Regards,

The ETpro will be deeper and have a faster recovery speed than the F2. The best $300 machine out there......probably even at the $400 level.

If you spend more you may want to wait and see what the Makro Red Racer can do. I think it will be about a $650 MSRP but I bet the dealer(s) will have some specials to get this baby going. But of the current models in your range I have not seen one in person but like others stated, the EuroTek is a great machine I hear.

how does the Eurotek stack up against the xterra 305 since it has ground balancing.

Thats going to depend where in the U.S. you are when u compare the two.....or how "hot" the ground is.

ETpro users are getting really great depths on coins and such in average to moderate ground....i dont "think" the 305 will beat it. Also, remember that DD coils tend to handle bad ground better than concentric...and seperate better too.
