According to their website the XP G-Maxx 2 at the lower 4.6 khz frequency is a "detector for coins and significant items". According to Garrett the 15 khz frequency "allow for improved detection for small targets, gold nuggets, and jewelry." There's the difference; one is a specialized coin machine and the other more sensitive to smaller targets. I have two machine with similar frequencies like the ones you describe, the White's XLT 6.59khz and the White's MX Sport 13.4khz and I use them like the detectors described above. One for coin hunting and the other as a more general purpose and jewelry machine. Hope this helps. Tt
