My brother has a box of old buttons...

Hi, my brother's sister-in-law passed away and he aquired a box of old buttons that look like they're 1930's- 1960's. But these two were more interesting:

This first button reads GERMAN and has 3 stars on the bottom (see pics) and the other side I think reads NEUHEIT. I only had my cell phone to snap a picture of these so they're kind of fuzzy. This one in size is about the size of a half-dime.

The 2nd button is a big US, but is it civil war? Looks copper to me and the backing has a threaded stem with two points that would grip into the clothing. It also has the backing that seems to be brass that tightens down on the threaded stem. This one in size is larger than a quarter but not quite as large as a large cent. Is it a civil war replica?

    Any help would be great!
    Thanks, Chris

The US disk is an enlisted collar disk from WW1 to early WW2.
