    Re: Dug this I Button

Wow can't belive no one here can shed some light on this button. We just don't find these in Colorado. I was looking for a camp site that may have been used by Zeb Pike Party when they were out here. I was on private property with permsion by the way. So this is my 1st. Eagle button found here in Colorado. Didn't find any thing else that would support this idea. so looking for some hints if the army with Pike could have had these types of buttons. Did find 2 .69 cal 3 ringer bullets, and some junk but that was about it. For the most part I have not been a relic hunter, in the past.

    Hi,

It's a matter of posting to areas of the forum where folks will see it. Nobody goes to this section much, but if this post was in the "What is it?" section it would've had 10 replies by now.

Those buttons are not the "chicken eagle" button (referred to by some as the "Indian Wars Era" eagle buttons). Instead it is a Civil War era type, but hard to pin down because there is no backmark. I'd say it is c.1850 to c.1870.

    Great find.

Hey thanks Sorry I posted in the wrong place. I will remember the tip. We don't see many of these out here at all.

No problem. This is really a perfectly OK place to post, but...folks don't check this part of the forum much. So if you want quick replies go the other route.

Yeah, I'd say those are pretty rare ou there. I know that many regiments were stationed out in the midwest at the beginning of the CW, so there are likely some great pre-war camps to be found out there... Even farther west, there are Indian Wars campsites. Nice find there.

    Cheers,
