    union navy civil war? ID needed

    found this today...my first military I believe. only thing I can match it to on the web says it was as titled...any help please!

    Sorry Jersey devl but I believe your button is a civilian button made to look like a navy. If the back is still in it it probably has a tin back and either a tin shank or a hump in the back with 2 holes (self shank). A real navy button will have finer detail and a better looking eagle and anchor. I think you can still find the buttons, like you dug, in fabric stores today.

    Thats where I got the idea from ,once I saw that I thought I was golden. The back is gone and I threw it in all metal and still couldnt find the back (2 piece) ...the area it was from I heard was civil war meeting area from south bend IN back in the day Ive found nothing to confirm this and was hoping this was the break I was looking for1 Thanks again! HH
