Old button but what age? Have looked everywhere w/no luck.

Found at 1820's farmhouse, which used to be a stockade in mid 1700's near another button that reads GILD with a wreath design. Need help identifying age of button pictured. I have checked google, yahoo and ebay and have had no luck. The button still had a small piece of wool attached to it, but I removed it for the picture. Button reads STANDARD IMPROVED PLATE

Have you looked at http://www.daacs.org/aboutDatabase/p...ng/Buttons.pdf? I use it to ID all my colonial buttons. Very helpful.

This is a standard generic backmark from the 1820s through the 1850s, give or take.

My "How To Clean Buttons" thread in the "Cleaning and Preservation" section of the forum is worth reading, when you get a chance.

P.S.--that website listed above may be ok, but it has a good bit of incorrect information. For button dating/backmarks/etc., Tice's button book is the way to go.
