U.S. brass button with small threaded screw back. What time period?

Found this today where a lot of Civil War relics have been found. Not sure what time period/war it's from. Any ideas?

Metal: Brass
Size: Approx. the size of a quarter, possibly a slightly smaller

Collar disk probably from ww1

How can you identify the metal? Mine has a redish patina on it and the U.S. and the disk appear to be two separate pieces of metal. Replica maybe?
