I found this Convex Button a few days ago in a Civil War Camp in Southwest Missouri. The backmark has a Star with an Oak Leaf on each side and says Rich Gold Colour between two raised Rings. The Camp was occupied by the Army of the Frontier in March , 1863. If anyone has seen PB040001 (2).JPG PB040001 (2).JPG one like this please let me know

I believe it's just a fancy button. Lots are found on Civil War sites.

Hi Smokey,
Have you noticed one piece or two piece plain brass buttons on civil war sites? Manufacture 1830 for example. Got some Robinson buttons from a cw site.

The spelling of the word "colour" suggests an English made button. Lots of one piece and two piece brass civilian buttons are found in Civil War campsites, usually thought to be from Confederates who didn't have regulation uniforms, but could be from Union soldiers or from civilians that may have lost the buttons before, during, or after the war. Would love to see a picture of the back.
