I dug this button in a early 1861 Missouri site. The button is referred to as a Bullet Button in Albert's book.( We always called this style a ball button).Albert refers to it as a SU 2 . A photograph from a 1826 "Spies Book" in the New York Historical Society shows what it looks like in non-dug condition. The button has a eagle with 13 stars encircling it. No back mark. About 3/4" in diameter.

I've been to some relic shows and took the button with me and have only seen 1 non-dug example. There may be some dug ones out there , but I haven't seen or heard of any.

How about you TNET diggers? Anyone find one?
