Need some help on this button

I've researched quite a bit trying to ID this button I found a few months ago, but I'm still pretty new to the hobby so I'm sure I'm overlooking a few things. It was found on the same land that's produced some very nice 1700-1800's finds, which initially led me to believe it was some sort of British military button, but that could just be wishful thinking. Any input is greatly appreciated

That type of shank was invented in the 1870's and this style button is heavily used with blazer style clothing.
