I was metal detecting a fort where it goes back to the French in the early 1700s I found two buttons they seem to go together and the larger one is concaved and I was wondering if anybody could give me information on it I’m trying to learn buttons thank you image-2021-01-03-17:45:08-333.jpg

Look like they're pewter.

Truth, that's probably the oldest artifact you have found. The button with shank is late 17th to early 18th century. We find them here on very early colonial sites. Rarely.

Truth, that's probably the oldest artifact you have found. The button with shank is late 17th to early 18th century. We find them here on very early colonial sites. Rarely.

OMG!!!! Smoky you have made me so happy right now you just don’t know. The fact of the matter is I basically had to do construction just to get down to the signal that was iffy at that. Then I found the cuff button two days before and it was a set. Smoky is there a name for these buttons?

Well that’s where the French were until the Spaniards made them leave in the early early 1800s I wonder if it was French?
