    Cashing out a cache

O.k. so let's say hypothetically that I found a tin box containing 100 or so varuious denomination silver and gold coins. No earthshattering key dates. I'm in a real rural area with no coin shops around. So whats the best way to get the most out of my find, without uncle sam getting more of it than me? Sell a single coin at a time on ebay? I just want to get your folks opinion and if any of you have had this type of experience, please chime in. Thanks

Ebay would be as good as any place assuming you have enough positive feedback to gain easy trust from buyers. Good pictures will do the rest of the work. Also, they charge lower percentages for higher dollar amounts so you might consider lots... especially the gold coins since it sounds like most of it would be the bullion value anyway.

    Re: Cashing out a cache

Although I have no experience is cashing in a cache, there are ways to draw attention to yourself and there are ways to quietly realize the most from your "coin collection" that you have decided to part with. Only liquidate singles or a few at a time. I would not sell them all in one place. A few to the bay people, maybe a few on the list that Craig keeps, maybe an unannounced trip to a coin dealer in a larger city. Before any of this happens, a few hours spent researching what they are actually worth to the public, and what they are worth to a coin or bullion dealer. The public buys because they see it as an investment, or because of fear of a monetary collapse. The coin/bullion dealer buys to resell, he has to eat also. One liquidation source to consider is a coin show. They are all across the nation. Maybe it is time for a vacation. Like others have suggested in past writings. put together a few pages in an album, that is the album I am sure you have had for years, The paper holders have multiple staple marks in the paper coin holders from removing them at one time or another. They may be slightly soiled here and there. The plastic pages, all two of them do not match, may have a torn pocket or two.

I am sure you can fill in the blanks. If you act like you know what you are doing, where you are supposed to be doing it, in a manner that fits, it all comes together in a fine performance.

The other thing, at a coin show, all payments in cash. If you use the list that Craig has, all payments are cash in a face to face also. If you drop by the coin dealer, all payments in cash. At the Bay, almost any payment will leave a trail.

Just my two, carefully mulled over, cents worth.

Now if we could find Mr Hypothetical.
