    FOUND MY FIRST CACHE.....SORTA

Hello all, I have been checking out this site for a few months now and decided to sign up. But anyway I recently was going through some things in my mom's closet and guess what I found.... a bunch of coins and to be honest I know NOTHING about them. Most of them are 1/2 dollars from various years but there are also some bicentenial (ahh spelling?) quarters and 3 or 4 whole dollars. The majority of the half dollars are silver. I'll post the pics if ?I can figure out how to do it. I also have some older coins (maybe a dozen) that are really cool. I haven't gotten around to taking pictures of those so I will just list them. Please bare with me as I don't know the correct terminology. Some of the coins have a little card with their info and some don't So anyway here it goes:

    1895 Indian Head cent
    1914 Dime
    1945 Standing Liberty Half
    1832 twenty five cent piece
    1942-S walking half
1853 Half dime Liberty seated with arrows
    1952 Franklin half
    1933-S walking half
    1942-S Walking half
    1943 Standing Half
    1901 Dime
1904 Something? Has a picture of a head and on the back a V
    1902 Indian Head penny
    1926 Indian head nickel
    1904 Indian Head penny

Well That does it for the oldies. Can you guys tell me anything about them?

Your coin, the "1904 something" is a Liberty Head Nickel minted from 1883 to 1912 with a few rare controversial specimens from 1913. They are sometimes just called "V" nickels. The average buying price for a low grade1904 liberty nickel is about $1.00.

Nice cache! Treasure is where you find it, I always say! I would guess that the 1832 quarter would be the most valuable, ranging from around $50 in very poor condition to severl hundred or more if it's in really nice shape. I'd have that one checked by a dealer, granted it is an 1832 US capped bust style quarter. Good luck, hope you get a tidy sum for them!

ALL I CAN SAY without you posting them is, IF you sell,
Get a Trustworthy Opinion, OR at least don't sell them for LESS then DOUBLE the MINIMUMS,
As some of the silver coins Prices don't even Consider the Value of Silver these days.
EXAMPLE : the 52 Franklin Half probably has $5.00 to $6.00 Worth of silver in it.

ANOTHER WAY to see what the Market is paying,
LOOK them up on EBAY, Find ones that are as close to the same condition
By Compairing Pics to your coins.

I don't mean to contradict you, but silver spot is around $8.50 atm, and the Franklin half contains only .45 oz of actual silver, so we're talking around $4.20 spot, and considering most scrappers charge a 20% scrap fee.... It's no windfall...

What I do is twice a month I buy all the hand-rolled halves from all the local banks in my county, and I search them for silver. In a good month I'll get a pound but usually less. I then smelt it into ingot form my self - note that this is dangerous and if you don't know how to purify and cast silver you should NOT do it - and sell my ingots to a jewelers plate company without taking the 20% hit.
