    What size coil and why?

I have 2 coils for my MD. An 8" and a 4" (they came in the package deal).

What are the pros and cons of both?

Which one do you use and where and why?

    Thanks in advance,

if there is a lot of trash, use the small coil...
if the targets are far in between, use the large coil...

i have one detector with a large coil...if i am in a manicured lawn, i use that locator to find the targets, i mark them , usually around 30,
    with some homemade markers ,
then i use the other detector with the small coil to to pinpoint and retrieve the metal objects.
    good luck ....lou.

I keep my 4" coil in my pouch, and when I find a target with my 8", I turn off my machine, unplug the 8 and plug in the 4 and use it to pinpoint with just my hand. Works especially well on those targets that creep around in a hole. DM

Thanks - this should help me also as Im finding that I am having trouble pinpointing targets with my 10"x 14". Also on this topic I have read where some coils may be off with the X. Test and then marking the coil with a permanet marker where the X should be.
