    Caches around old houses

Did some families in the 1800's bury their savings around their house? I have heard this is how it was done sometimes but I just wanted to get everyones take on this.

    Thanks

One evening her uncle got drunk and hid several mason jars full of coins. She said he had a habit of getting drunk and bragging about his money. Anyway, fearing he was gonna be robbed he hid his money. After a couple of days (not to mention after he sobered up) her uncle was not able to find his money. She said they spend many weeks trying to find them. Anyway, she says the money is still there. I have the name of a town that doesnt exist anymore and the last name of her uncle. She told me about some curves in the road and where the house was in relation to them. I looked in the U.S. Treasure Atlas and the town is not recorded in it. I did find a reference to the town when reading an article about early oil city, PA.

Anyway, I said all that to say this, keep looking, there is lots of stuff to find.
That's a good lead. I hope you find the cache.
    Yes sir, they do exist.

Apparently a common practice to bury money in jars, and the like.

There are numerous stories on TN that describes such discoveries...one such find was a hoard of money found buried in a basement...another I recall was found in a yard when digging a trench for a water pipe...
