because if you do not --the "landowner" can easily say you were there without permission taking away their stuff and they caught you "red handed" in the act of looting their property -- they can hold you at gun point if need be to make sure you and the "stuff" stay put and call the cops -- when the cops come they will say --you were tresspassing on the landowners land without his ok when you "found" the treasure so now fork over the "stolen" goods to the landowner and do not come back on his land or bother him or esle -- and if you got no "proof" there was a deal ( ie something in writing) yer goose is cooked --you been had
