    New Kind of Cache Hunting

Time will tell. I am always checking the locale real estate markets in our neck of the woods and may have stumble on something. A bank building is for sale at a very good fair market value. Bank buildings have safe deposit boxes. Safe deposit boxes may or may not have valuables left in them. I have a friend going to check the property out tomorrow and he will verify if the boxes or still in place and if the bank did not have access to some of them when the property was vacated.
The TV Show ( IF Walls Could Talk ) showed a couple that bought an old bank to remodel into a home. They started accessing the locked boxes and have found all sorts of valuables. Will keep this post updated if all works out.
PS: I do have a second and third use for the building, so not just a cache hunt. I would never suggest to anyone to put hard earned money up for a MAYBE.

Good "out of the box" thinking. No pun intended.

There is always the scrap yard. I'm sure they will bring a pretty penny or two.
Like Curtis siad. Turn it into a restaurant, then charge more for them to be locked in the vault room to eat.

UPDATE: My Buddy called today with bad news... All the Safe Deposit Boxes have been removed. This is not the news I wanted to hear, but it is what it is... I will continue to keep an eye out for any of the older bank buildings going up for sale in this neck of the woods. Those of you that can, may also want to check out your area. Never know whats in a Locked Box.

Vault doors may sell OK. I know of a person who got one from a former bank building and installed it in his concrete basement wall to a gun vault with a concrete ceiling. He owns many guns and this worked out real nice for security and fire safety. I would think they would sell easy for a purpose like this if not scrap would sure pay something.

Well if you were sure about the end coming in 2012 and the chaos that will come with it...those doors might work well for a bunker made of concrete hidden in the woods...

This is a little late but.... Call some of the locksmiths that are safe dealers. #2 call some of the antique dealers, they might have a list of decorators that might be interested. #3 Make contact with some of the movie studios prop departments.

Re: New Kind of Cache Hunting

I might be mistaken, but my understanding is that all the stuff in safety deposit boxes and accounts that aren't claimed are turned over to the state comtroller. I got back $1.83 from a savings account I forgot about years ago.

BTW If you get a call from people wanting money to give you information on money that was found and is yours don't fall for it. You can go to most state controllers web sites and check for yourself to see if they're holding money or valuables for you or passed away relatives without paying a commission or finders fee.
