    I found treasure!!!!

Hey I'm new here and have a great story! There is a old house about a quarter of a mile in the woods behind my house. no one has lived in it for 15 yrs . All I know about it is that the old man that lived there was rich and hated banks . The house has not been touched since he died of course right after his kids went in and got what they wanted but after that everything was lefted even the food in the freezer and fridge. Well, I collect bottles so i thought this wold be a great place to look around , I did find some bottles that were cool but my boyfriend was freaked out by the place so he didnt want to stay long so we lefted of course i was p!ssed because I wanted to explore the place it seemed really cool. So the nexted day I went back by myself more out of curiousity than treasure hunting. In a room that was seperated from the rest of the house i found a dresser that had some bottles poking out of the top so I looked in it was also filled with papers , bank statements from the 60's and a mason jar with checks for 4000 and 2000 that were never cashed from the 60's. Why would he not cash those checks? that was alot of money back then. Then at the back of the dresser, not really hidden, was a bag of morgan dollars! 29 of them from 1878-1920's.by far the coolest thing I have ever found . there was a 1879cc morgan in there also that was pretty cool but what I dont understand is that there 4 pennies from 1971 in the bag also. why would he put them with the silver dollars? I want to go back and look around the old house some more but cant due to work until tuesday, mayba i will hit the jackpot! any advice would be great, thanks for reading!

we have permission to go in the house, hell, my bfriend was told he could have anything he found in the house if he would clean it out and clear up around it, but that was five years ago before the roof caved in the living room of the house i am trying to talk him in to doing it but the house gives him the creeps it would be perfect for a horror movie. the children were lefted with millions and were well off to begin with so they really dont care.

As for bail money, lets just say in my line of work it would be pointless to put me under a bond

WHAT A DEAL! A lot of hunters would like to find a deal like that. Your boy friend is not likely to carry out cleaning up the property. So why don't you get b-friend to sign a paper letting you clean up the property and go for it. Means it's close to were you live. Drag out, go through and burn what you don't want to keep. Then check inside and out of house with a M/D.
Also don't forget to check out the will of the person that died there. It will let you know if he died with a lot of money in the bank? If he didn't get excited
    as well as busy.
Why wouldn't a person cash the checks? Just forgot about them? Silver coin just put in drawer! Looks like if he was in the habbit of burying money the silver coin would have been buried also? But if you haven't got something better to work on, I'd say it would be worth your time to go through the house
again. Might be one of the best things you've ever done.
You'll kick yourself if you hear the next person to buy the place finds big bucks there while you had just sit back and did nothing all this time.
    Anyway, Good luck.

I cant wait to get back out there! I have been reading the tread about the moonshiners i know where two stills are in the woods not even a mile from my house untouched i will check them out also as for the house I have heard rumors for years now that her buried 30,000 in cash in his yard but using a metal detector would be almost impossible due to brush. What gets me is why he would not cash those checks, he had them for twenty years before he died, i know he didnt trust banks but why not cash them? another thing to, I noticed that he has mason jars stuffed with checks, I.O.U's and letters , now I wonder what else he would stuff in mason jars Hmmmm.........

Ps does anyone know where money might be hidden in a todacco barn?
i know this is a little off subject but one of the stills is behind a baccer barn.

    Re: I found treasure!!!!

Those baccer barns are good places to hide treasure.

I have a story of a guy who found a cache in a live-stock barn.
He was looking for a cache that was supposed to be hidden there, so he picked a corner that was out of sight from the house and the road. Then he noticed that the posts were not solid posts, but built of lumber, meaning they were hollow. He taped the posts 'til he got a solid sound, and running his detector over it he got a signal. Inside was the cache, covered in sawdust.

Sounds like one place to check is in the rafters or gutters (you may recall this story from last year):

Clear some brush for a chance at $30,000?...I doubt that there's too many readers of this forum would consider that impossible.

    Re: I found treasure!!!!

    Ambermay,
As for the barn, I would be looking in the rafters and digging around the sides. It was very common for people to bury or stash money. Look at what happened in 1929, people were scared they were going to lose their money if they kept it in the banks. Its more common than you know!

My father-in law's dad died a few years ago and they are still finding hidden money in the house and barn. Who knows how much he may have hidden or burried. Over the years, as he sold his land off, he would get the money in cash and have to put it some where. He never had bank account!

My great-grandfather is said to have burried over $100,000 in cash in his yard after he sold some of his property off in the 1930's. The location of the house has been lost over years and he died before she was born.

You never know whats burried in your backyard!

OK, now that I know more about it I can say you should make some effort to recover what you can. Just CYA, you never know how some people will react when $$$ are involved. Good luck and keep us posted. Monty

Be careful what you say on this forum about who/where you are. Same thing especially around your town about this story. All it takes is one bad apple to figure out where you are and jump on that spot behind your back, or someone to recognize the place who is or claims to be related to the old man who will come out of the woodwork to claim the stuff. Nobody wanted a part of it, but when they find out what's there that will change quickly.

You may want to examine those pennies. There were some double dies from 1971 & 1972.

    Re: I found treasure!!!!

Amber, in response to your barn question, if it has a wooden floor, look for loose boards and/or a trap door. If they were bootleggers, they had to have somewhere to stash all the liqour that they were planning on selling in the future. But make sure you have someone go with ya, cause barns and houses are great places for snakes to nest. Especially if you're in the southern part of the US and the midwest. Rattlers love cold damp places to stay. And, of course, there's always the occassional mouse/rat nests in all buildings in the country or backwoods.
