Best Spot To Find A Gold Coin

    Dubuque Iowa, Kelly's Bluff
Several caches were discovered here in the late 1800's. Old Tom Kelly the miser lead miner had died claiming none would ever find his money! But some was found shortly after his death. About 5 different caches of differing amounts have been found. The two largest were of $10,000 each in gold coins. The smallest was still over $1,000. All coins in the caches dated before 1864. There is still suppose to be over $35,000 buried on the bluff. Detectorist still hunt the wooded bluff side to this day and find occasional gold coins. This is the best spot to find a gold coin. If all the missing 35,000 in gold was 2 1/2 dollar gold pieces there would be enough for each member on tnet! What are you all waiting For?

That always cracks me up when people say things like that. It's almost a challenge to people to try and find it--kind of like declaring to the world that you have a security system on your house that is so good no one could ever break in. Or making public statements that the IRS will never find your undeclared money or that the police will never find your hidden garden. If I had a stash of gold coins like that I'd never even say I had them, much less that no one was going to find them!

There are things you can replace.  And others you cannot.  The time has come to weigh those things.  This space is getting hot.  Whoa!  This space is getting hot!

    Pete,
I've been to this area. Its a very steep wooded hillside. As I recall, the property is/was owned by the Catholic church.

All facts of the story, most caches discovered were by accident. This was back in the 1860's. Tom Kelly never spent much of his gold. Three folks that have replied to this thread so far have found gold coins. Who wants to be the next to find the gold!!!!
