    The article talks about the Mayan writings "just perished." Actually the Spanish destroyed everything they could get their hands on. Anything printed was placed in piles and burned. This info is readily available in the journals the Priests kept. Statues of gold were melted down. Catholic churches build on top of every pyramid. The Spanish were all about destroying a culture. It has nothing to do with the humidity.
    If anyone has a chance to go to the Yucatan area, there are some guides that will take an extra $25 a person and show you the area underneath the pyramids that the Spanish never found. Color murals on the walls and a carved stone alter with a carved head on one end of a great cat, like a Puma or Cougar.
