    Small Silver Cache Found

At my RV Park, we have a small laundry room. We have two coin operated washers & dryers. On new years eve day 2004, I emptied the coin boxes as I do every Friday. They take quarters & I always stack them by hand to scan the edges for silver before I take them to the bank. Apparently, someone must have mixed up his quarter containers. I found 40 silver quarters. Some Standing Liberty & mostly washingtons. NO key coins but I was pleased. NO one came forward to claim them or complain of the loss so my silver stash grew by 40 silvers. I think that this qualifies as a small silver cache that someone lost & I found it. Spotz

Sweet the other day I got three wheat pennys and a silver dime in change from walmart. Have you ever checked the inside of the dryers? My uncle once found a 50 dollar bill in one.

Yeah! It is a lot less common to get it in change now, but it's still out there. I am really a lot more excited to find it with my DFX. One of these days I'll turn up a good post hole cache. Spotz

A key coin is one thats worth more then the more common dates or like the 3 legged Buffalo .

    Good find spotz.
When I'm getting change from stores I always glance at the register when its open and if a see a silver dollar or some 50 cent pieces I ask for them, and they always let me have them, the kids working the registers just see them as money not as collectible coins.

I am fairly new to this coin collecting thing. Are there any good websites or books out there that tell you how to identify these "silver" coins and such?
Any info would be greatly appreciated and if you want to email me off the board you can reach me at stephenhamre@yahoo.com

Hi stephan it is not hard to identify silver when you find it its a totally different color than regular change, and it looks diffrent too, such as the faces printed and so forth also another way to tell if you got a silver coin is ,any thing thats a dime or more and the year is 1964 or before its silver! so good luck find them old coins, tammahawk

I still find 40% silver half dollars by buying rolls from the bank. Treasure is in the eye of the beholder.

    Re: Small Silver Cache Found

Got my change back last month. As I walked back to the car I was trying to think of what the strange half dollar was that I was just handed. Turned out to be a silver Madison Bill of Rights mint s.

Like a dummy I didn't go back and ask for more change.
