any us govt military payroll or treasury money (or even confederate gold stashes) that got lost or stolen are veiwed as US govt property and thus illegal to keep if found * --the govt if you keep it knowing its "govt money" can and will charge you with theft of govt funds if they catch you with it --if you find such money and fail to turn it in , it can be massive trouble --ps the US Govt is under no obligation to pay any sort of finders fee to you either for finding "their" money -- just "gimme" my money says the "grubbermint" --so if hunting govt funds-- its best to keep it to yourself.
