Example of how Caches get "lost"

The other day I was on the phone with my dad and remembered how he used to keep his rather significant coin collection under a trap door in a closet our old house when I was a kid. I asked if he had looked at his collection lately. There was a pause and he said he hadn't seen it in years. I said, do you remember how you used to keep it under the trap door in the old house. He didn't remember. We had moved from this house in 1976, so it's quite possible he did remember at the time we moved and took it, but forgot since then. It's possible it could be in some boxes he says haven't been opened for years. Just an example of how things like this happen. I do go back to the area of our old house for business almost every month, so it makes me think about going there to explain the story and ask to look under the trap door. I'm if it was left behind it was found by now and the house probably changed hands a few times, but you never know...

...unless you go back to the house and check it out...

There are things you can replace.  And others you cannot.  The time has come to weigh those things.  This space is getting hot.  Whoa!  This space is getting hot!

people's lost memory has a lot to do with lost caches... as does sudden illness and death. As people get much older they tend to forget things. Sometimes they forget everything. Wherever they buried or hid any $$$$ - it is there until found by some lucky person. Ya just never know...?

I'll probably go back, but the fact is this trap door was in plain view at the bottom of a closet. Someone would have seen the item down there over the past 30 years, no question. I suppose if the house is still owned by the same person 30 years later and they are honest, there would be a chance to get it back. Then again, it could be packed in a box in my dad's garage.

I can imagine that more then one cache was misplaced in a drunken stupor.

Made me think of a story. I was cleaning an old buffet in a nook in our house. The dust was thick on it. There on top was a folded up $100.00 bill neatly held in place by a trinket. I blew off the dust and told my wife. I know I put it there in the last 3 or 4 years but for the life of me, I can't remember doing it. I have no idea why I would have left it there. I'm only in my 30's and sure as heck don't have 100's just laying around.

Yep! Memory plays a big part in lost caches. Why I remember, remember, remember, for the life of me I just can't remember what I remembered. I often get up in a hurry & head to another room & when I get there, I don't know why I went. Spotz
