Lisbon Portugal - Archaeologists excavating a site in northeastern Portugal discovered 4,500 ancient Roman coins tucked away inside a wall.
The bundle of 4,526 copper and bronze coins was hidden inside the wall of a 4Th century blacksmith's home, Antonio SA Coizao, head of the excavation in Coriscada, said yesterday. "It looks like someone was trying to hide them but they never went back to get them," he said. AP
thats pretty cool! the roman remains in portugal are pretty scarce when compared to the rest of their empire so finding something like this is very rare here.
i wish portugal allowed metel detecting, id be out there everyday! i can just imagine the napoleonic war items i'd find!

What is to stop you if you get search permission from a land owner and agree to split the finds evenly? Search at night if the land owners plot is not very large, so neighbors would be sleeping. stvn.
