Karl was a great writer, person and a great treasure hunter, and a great teacher. Do any of you knew Montana Larry Campbell? Please contact me. [email protected]
The coin/jewelry route with someone you know should work fine. No paper work. No problems. It should be considered a personal transaction as long as the dates are right for coins (pre 1933 I think).
Pay attention to what you're getting (at least 70-80% of numismatic value properly graded and no less than 8-10% below spot for bullion). And, be circumspect about how much at any one time.
Oh, and remember to declare any profits on your taxes.
Yup you can get rid of coins no problem. Heck you could sell them at pawn shops around the country for cash if you had to. You may not get top value but if it's a huge cache it may not matter. As for gold or silver bars, make a gold or silver claim somewhere....anywhere. Then melt it all down into your own nuggets/bars. File your taxes.......voila. You found it on your claim :P
Do it one at a time and tell when they ask (because they will) that it was something your grandfather left you. Don't tell anyone you have more and keep the rest well stashed.
