Going to the desert, mountains or deep woods. no radio, no cell phone, truck won't start. below are some sites that my son is using. all of you treasure hunters should printing out some of the info and keeping it with you and show your family the sites. The main thing he found out was most people never tell anyone were they will be. Some of the sites are for kids, but arn't we all.

    What If? Wilderness Survival

Nice thread, boomer. Maybe it will cut down on some of the horror stories that come out of the western US every year because of people jumping feet first into the wild without giving a moment of thought to what can go wrong, and how rapidly a fun time can turn into a nightmare.

    Best to you,
    Jack

The best survival technique of them all...
    Guess what?
    Buy a top map..
Having first learned how to read them...
    Then plan your trip accordingly!
I know of two young people,
who died trying to walk their way back from a disbled vehicle
in southern Arizona a couple of years back!
    The REAL! tragedy,
was that if they had just walked over the ridge, that ran next to the road,
they could have walked to a ranch...FOUR Miles from them!

I'm old school Special Forces and would never venture out in the unknown without map and compass, and now I don't travel without GPS, heck got two on my boat.

    Re: What If? Wilderness Survival

I have come across a book, "Shifting into 4WD"
    by a Harry Lewellyn.
He, from what I have read so far, is writting from his many years of OTR 4wd experience(s)
    ? ? What!!!? ?
? ? YOu HAve To Buy A BOOK!?
    YEP!
If I can learn but ONE! (1) thing from his book or any book!? Then I have gained!
    If not!
? I then know how really smart I am!?
Seriously, it is a good book for any OTR'er, Beginner, "Pro" , or in Betweener!
AND! The ONE Thing learned may just be the ONE Thing that saves your "Bu_ _"!? :P
