Need Help with a Buried Cache
Ok my parents live in Simpson NC as well as I grew up there and when I was young I had heard that there was gold buried in simpson. Always had that "HOPE" in the back of my mind but now a buddy of mine has gotten a treasure atlas of north carolina and it says "The Grandfather of All Caches is buried in the area of Simpson NC".
Does anyone know how it got there or who put it there? Any info on the Cache of simpson would be helpful, dont think that it can be found now b/c when I was younger most of the whole area was farmland and then maybe yea, but now the little town of simpson is full of houses EVERYWHERE!!! its sad.
But I would app. any help.
Thanks

Probably wouldn't hurt to read up on The Knights of the Golden Circle or KGC.
They were the ones putting those caches in the ground back then.

Re: Need Help with a Buried Cache
Digger,
Don't want to be negative because I believe there is a treasure buried near Simpson, but not a huge one. I double checked your reference, and it says "the Grandfather cache" not the Grandfather of all caches. I'm not much good at metal detecting or treasure hunting, but I am good at writing down treasure tales I've read/heard over the years. I bet this cache is $5,000 buried by an elderly gentleman shortly before he died. In some notes I have, I've written 250 $20 gold pieces hidden by farmer, and a reference to a newspaper article from a newspaper that is defunct. See if you can find any archives for a newspaper that used to be in Pitt county. I seem to remember this was buried in the years some time after WWI...
Don't let my doubts stop you from looking! HH to you and we all hope you hit the BIG one. Remember: Today is the day.

BTW 250 $20 would be worth 1/4 to 1/2 million if Dahlonega (sp?) then could be worth a HUGE amount. SEARCH

My reference also states "Grandfather" as the name of the cache.
It should be coins.....the amount, unknown.
GB's advice on finding an old newspaper article is a very good one.
