Heads up to all of you: What a job this has to be!

A while back I posted an offer on another TH/Metal Detecting Forum for free email copies of my ebook, Desert Emergency Survival Basics. The result was the discovery that TH Forums are evidently being monitored by a company hired to keep an eye on our posts. Critical Intervention Services, Clearwater, Florida could have bought a copy of the book on Amazon or from my website. I'd never have noticed a thing.

Instead they evidently had one of their hired-guns order a free copy by email. I suppose the sky-high gasoline prices are forcing everyone to tighten their belts:

Re: Offer of a free email copy of Desert Emergency Survival Basics to IGHunter users. Anyone who feels he might be coming to this part of the country to stomp around the outback, feel free to email me and I'll send you an ebook copy in pdf format free for the asking. It's just an expanded version of the last chapter of The Lost Adams Diggings - Myth, Mystery and Madness with a lot of illustrations and diagrams to help understand things that are only described in the Adams book.

Because of the pics it's a big file... 3-4 meg, so if you have a yahoo account the file might overfill it if you don't think ahead. But if you think you might have use for it I'll send any of you a free copy by email until, say, April 30, '04. It's about 40+ pages, and you can print it out at home if you like.
    Hi Folks:

I'm withdrawing this offer early. What interest there was in it among the users here dwindled after a short time, and I'd forgotten about it entirely. I haven't heard from anyone who received it, so I think that's all finished.

However, this morning I received a request for a copy from one, Natalie Calhoun, referring to the offer I made here. Natalie Calhoun's email is Natalie@protectors.org. She gave no explanation for her request except that the offer was made here.

I sent the file as I'd promised to do and thought no more about it until I received a second email from her asking for a second copy, claiming the one I'd sent was corrupted. That email had a large attachment with the title 'ebook', which isn't the title of mine. I don't normally open files from people I don't know, so I went to protectors.org to see exactly who I was dealing with.

That page was just a blurb linking me to something called, Critical Intervention Services http://www.cisworldservices.org/
The site gave the following description of the company:

Critical Intervention Services is a Clearwater, Florida-based company providing a range of protection and investigative services to businesses, governments and individuals inside Florida and throughout the world. Founded in 1992, CIS is an industry leader in developing and incorporating innovative and effective solutions to security and intelligence related problems.
I haven't a clue what they have to do with desert survival in New Mexico, me, or IGHunters, or why they are sending me ebook files I didn't request.

However, I've sent the ebook to everyone who's requested it, including this one. It takes a lot of online time to send, as I explained in my offer. Effective immediately I'm withdrawing the offer. If Critical Intervention Services, Clearwater, Florida wants another copy they can order it from Amazon.
Dodge the steamroller, compadres. And save one bullet for yourselves.

    Best to all of you,
    Jack

Desert survival in Iraq might be closer to the truth. $1,000 a day for the mercenaries sent there by these "security" outfits. Maybe they are using it as part of a training manual I don't know - just my two cents worth.

    Free goodies

Jack, i see your point on this, they have people assigned to get all the info on a project they are working on and setting up manuals for distribution to people assigned to a certain location. If its free they save and you loose. Jack, it looks like you have gone international.

By far ...most rediculous, narcissistic conspiracy theory!!!

My name is Natalie Calhoun...I live in Colorado and my fiance owns Executive Security International. I am a trained and licensed bodyguard and an analytical chemist.
My e-mail account is used by many security professionals and it is a free e-mail sevice. While run by Critical intervention Services in Florida it is available to anyone. And by the way you pompous -----......I served in the Military and recieved every type of survival training available. I am certified by the US Air Force to train peolple... whose duties may one day take them in hostile territory... how to escape and evade. I have linked up with paratroopers and have been trained in the intelligence and operations of underground nets.I doubt very seriously anything in your little e-book would be original or surprising.
I recently participated in training special forces in Colorado Springs in the art of link analysis and terrorist surveillance and take down. I know personally UN weapons inspectors (who participated in Iraq) and many highl level security professionals. Graduates of my fiance's school include the head of security for the Iraqi Governing Council and the Dali Lama just to give you an idea of the level of which I speak.
I was asked by Boomer to post my rock carving pics on IGHunter and in doing so saw a posting by you. Erroneously thinking you might be a good source of info with regards to my favorite past time of treasure hunting I read your posting. You offered a free e-book on survival and I thought it might be interesting. I requested a copy as your post instructed. The file you sent me was a corrupted .pdf file and I could not open it. Seems logical that I would make a second request.
Next thing I know you are writing posts about me insinuating that I have some underhanded...unscrupulous motive. Perhaps you should have done your research a little more thoroughly as to who I actually am before you attacked my character. I did nothing to warrant this.

    Sorry guys........

I have calmed down since my earlier posting and would like to say I'm sorry for ruining anyone's chance for getting a copy of Mr. Purcell's e-book. I would also like to say that I am an extremely honorable person and would never stoop to the level of which I was accused. Once again guys.....sorry.

Thanks, coinshooter, but I don't do dates with bodyguards.

Natalie, sorry to see you offended. In view of the fact I emailed you asking for an explanation immediately after receiving your request, and the fact that you responded with silence until today, I won't apologize for posting what I did here. A short response in answer to my inquiry would have cleared it all up with a few words. Given the same circumstances I'd do the same thing again.

    Best to you,
    Jack

    To err is human.....

I have apologized for overeacting...and I am truly sorry...

Coinshooter- If you are refering to the picture I posted of my fiance and me....I thought my arms looked a little muscular too(I don't lift weights).....But I can assure you there is no problem with my femininity....which is probably why I was upset when a man I trusted posted my name and private e-mail. My mistake....

I respond to e-mails ...etc. when I get a chance to check them. I do not have the luxury of being on the net everyday.

    Anyway......happy treasurehunting....

I return the apology in the same spirit you've given yours, treasureldy.

I'm the last guy in the world you ought to trust, however. Me, and anyone else you meet on the Internet. I've done nothing at all to earn your trust, nor have you done anything to earn mine. We're a couple of strangers in a flawed world where people lie, misrepresent, prey and prevaricate about their lives and their motives. Those traits are multiplied and magnified with the anonymity of the Internet. I'll forgive you for not trusting me in the future.

Happy treasure-hunting back atcha. Keep posting those petroglyphs and pictographs.

    Best to you,
    Jack
