I have no knowledge of beaches south of the city, but north of the city I can't think of one 'bad' beach--nor am I aware of any beach north of the city that requires a permit to MD. You'll have 30 miles of beaches to work with from the city north to the Oceanside marina. Enjoy.

HI HO HI Ho its off detecting I go
Re: need some advice on beach hunting in San Diego
Hi and hope you have fun at the beaches in San Diego. You can hunt all the city beaches and the state park beaches. In the state parks stay on the beach, because they do not allow hunting in the grassy areas. The reason I was told was to prevent people from interfering with the wildlife that live there. I have had good luck at ocean beach, mission beach and silver strand. Stay away from Torrey pines beach unless you have a really good detector for the minerals there will drive you crazy with all the false signals. All the beaches in San Diego are heavily hunted but I have never went and failed to find something. Anyway hope this helps you out. HH Ted

Obverse where most people sit between 3 and 4 PM; then be there between

Re: need some advice on beach hunting in San Diego
I've hunted a couple SD beaches. Never had a problem. As said, just look where people hangout. Then hunt there after
they leave. Preferrably not as they are getting up to leave

One of the better places to check is the sand edges adjacent to the parking areas...people have a tendency to pile their goodies while placing into their cars...
Watches, wallets, full money clips, rings, coins...and the list goes on.
