I live in Michigan and would like to make a return fishing trip near WaWa. Besides fishing i would like to prospect for fun.
Though rare, big Diamonds have been found in the area. Near WaWa, Timmins, and Cobalt. Like the 800 carot Nipissing yellow diamond found around 1904.
What if I found something like that, can I keep it? Should I report it at the border when heading back? If i claimed that i found a large diamond, what would they do, would they take it? I wouldn't want to break any laws.. Any info is greatly appreciated!

Don't know if this will help but start here...

https://iclg.com/practice-areas/mining-laws-and-regulations/canada

Section 1.2 states..."the export of rough diamonds is regulated under the Export and Import of Rough Diamonds Act".

Yes thanks. I would need to get a prospectors license for the right jurisdiction I believe. And somehow I'd have to get the diamond certified and registered Canadian. Picking up a chicken egg sized diamond in Canada, can be a hassle...
