Civil War Uniform 1st sgt Infantry!
This uniform was given to me by my wife's parents with the understanding that it will be well taken car of and NEVER SOLD! i agreed! it has been in there family for aver 100 years.they are moving into a retirement home that is a lot smaller than there house and don't have the room for a lot of things.my plan is to put it in a shadow box frame and hang it on the wall for all to see rather than stuff it in a closet.
Thanks for looking. And any comments positive or negitive are welcome.
I also have a artillary shirt that will post later.

the cloth fibers will deteriorate as if you poured Clorox on it.

Hey, make sure you get ALL the history, names, dates, places that belong to that uniform. You may never sell it, but the "personal" information adds to it's value as a relic. If it ends up displayed in a museum one day that would also add to it's historic significance.
Excellent stuff!

Most certainly. Ask these questions now, while they your wife's parents are around to answer them. And write it all down and keep it with the uniform.

Re: Civil War Uniform 1st sgt Infantry!
Hey guy's, I got to see this uniform first hand and up close. I've never seen a better kept authentic Union uniform. All the sewing is hand stitched. The buttons are....well you can see PRISTINE. There are only a couple of tiny spots where the wool has worn off the pants. I'm trying to get him to go to the Antiques Roadshow with me in June at Atlantic City. Every once in a while you see a jacket or shirt on the Roadshow, but never jacket and pants together. Besides the fact it's a noncom's uniform, which is awesome. I was afraid to touch the thing. Can any of you guys on here give an estimate of it's value as a whole? Thanks Hogge

Re: Civil War Uniform 1st sgt Infantry!
Just to add to the "coolness" factor - that IS a "First Sergeant"'s uniform... you can tell by the diamond. That makes it ever rarer... probebly one first sergeant per every (hundreds?) of men?

Re: Civil War Uniform 1st sgt Infantry!
I concur with Old Dog in regards to sunlight, and use UV PROOF GLASS if you shadow box it, and make sure all components of the shadow box are acid free!!!!! Hobby Lobby sells the "museum glass" and they also have a spray that renders things acid free. It is by Krylon and it is called "make it acid free" HH Joe

Thanks Montana Jim! we are working on finding that information but it is not easy and is slow going for sure as most of the ones involved have long past on. But we are going to give our best shot.
Thanks again HH
