    us buckle

I found a US buckle today. How do i know if it is real? It's seems kind of small in size has a lead filler and two prongs on the back that are broke off. I do have pictures but I don't know how to shrink them so they would fit on the forum. Thanks Jim

It sounds like a cartridge box plate. They were smaller. Get the picture thing figured out I want to see it...d2

Looks good to me. There were a few cartridge box plates that had brass studs coming out of the back. Are those brassd2

    Re: us buckle

Yep it's a baby 1839 "baby" US buckle. They book for about $375 to 400 or so. Without the hooks it would be less but that is still a nice plate. Texjim the plates backmarked Pittman are rare.

    Re: us buckle

When I first dug it I thought it was fake because of the size. I don't think I'll find another one. Thanks Tex

    Re: us buckle

They aren't a real common find. I've been digging 40 years have dug over 400 plates and only dug 1 baby US but that was a boxplate. You never know though you might pop another out of the ground
