It sounds like a cartridge box plate. They were smaller. Get the picture thing figured out I want to see it...d2

Looks good to me. There were a few cartridge box plates that had brass studs coming out of the back. Are those brass d2

i would have to agree that its a box plate since it only has 2 prongs on the back still a great find

It is a US baby buckle a friend of mine dug one and one had one arrow hook and one hook on it.

Yep it's a baby 1839 "baby" US buckle. They book for about $375 to 400 or so. Without the hooks it would be less but that is still a nice plate. Texjim the plates backmarked Pittman are rare.

They aren't a real common find. I've been digging 40 years have dug over 400 plates and only dug 1 baby US but that was a boxplate. You never know though you might pop another out of the ground

in this hobby you never know what your going to dig. My uncle has dug a lot of plates too and has never found a baby U.S. buckle either. Tex
