Interesting button found in the Hoosier state.............

Found this after work today at an 1860's home site (demolition) I am vaguely familiar with military/civil war buttons, and I am inclined to think this could be both, who are the experts here, no use showing the back, it has thick encrustation, any input would be generously appreciated...........fred

Re: Interesting button found in the Hoosier state.............

Hey Fred, I thought this was a variant of the North Carolina state button..... from Civil War era. But, I can't find anything in my references or on William Leigh's button website that is exactly like it. I tried to post a pic of the button on Americanrelichunters.com, but could not get it to load in bmp format. I did post a request for those there, that if they thought they could ID it for you, to come here and take a look at it. Sorry for not being of help.
If stupidity hurt, a lot of people would be walking around screaming!
