Does anyone have a good ref. book on spurs?

Does anyone have a good ref book on spurs? I found this spur in N Alabama at a site that was heavily occupied by both sides. It may be civilian. If anyone can give me any information as to maker or origin I would greatly appreciate it.

It looks like a civil war or earlier civilian spur to me. I could be wrong though.
Howard Crouch put out a good book on spurs. I don't have it or know the name of it right off though
