confederate camps in nc?

Does anyone know of the locations of the confederate camps in Weldon, NC and Garysburg ,NC? I know where the old earthworks are but you cant detect on them because they are owned by the local paper mill. From the information I have found on the net, there were about 8 camps in those areas. Thanks for any help.

You are going to have to do a lot more research than searching the web. Check the local historical society. They are a wealth of information. Have you asked at the papermill itself ? I have gotten permission from industiral places before. Bring along a no liability form. That sometimes makes them feel better about allowing it.

I have already checked with the paper mill and they said no. I am pretty sure there are no historical societys there as these are very small towns. The county courthouse records and maps only go back to about 1890 due to a fire and no one really kept alot of records. I cant even find anything on my ancestors from there back and everyone from my family is from there. I'll just keep searching. thanks

A camp was established for Confederate troops north of the town and trenches were dug near the river bridge to protect it from attack. The Methodist Episcopal Church was converted into a hospital and used by Confederate soldiers from North Carolina and Virginia, some of whom are buried in the church's courtyard.
