Geez, why the venom against Wal Mart? I mean they did the right thing and stopped. I for one will continue to patronize Wally World. If they decide to try and build on a battlefield again I will boycott them then.

score one for USA HISTORY - theres lots of places they can build a WAL MART - without using national battlefeilds to do it. --- glad they finally understand that now.

    Re: Wal-mart surrenders...

Ok People,, I am disturbed to be on the wrong side of this, but Wally world was not building on the battlefield!
And the best part is the archaeologists were the ones leading the charge against it. We all know which way they swing. So say someone lets you detect a 1/4 mile away from a battleground but the powers say that is just too durn close to it? The archys don't want anyone near it, claiming it for future generations but we all know that it deteriorates more and more the longer it is in the ground.
But this is not the ulterior motive. The motive is to start a class war between the buisinesses that give us what we want (the haves), and the people who consume the products(have nots in this case). Wake up America!!!

The only way that you can fight Chinese prices is to get the government OUT of trade, buisiness, And judging from responses so far, education. Because capitalism IS freedom!

Did it say anywhere in the article they wished to build a store on the battlefield ... or did you skip over the part where it stated, "... for a new store near a Civil War battlefield." ?

"Preservationists and some residents argued the store would infringe on the battlefield site and bring traffic and more commerce to Locust Grove."

Locust Grove has a population of roughly 7,600 people. Do you really think they need a friggin' Wal-mart there They didn't think so, either.

Was the meaning behind this to slam other members' responses or just an insult to their educational background?

    Re: Wal-mart surrenders...

    Oh kenosha, Where to start?
The implication is the battlefield! That gets the argument started and headed the right way.
Then we are able to say.. The community is roughly 7600 people, do you really think they need a friggin walmart there? We have History to defend here gosh darn it.
The fact is, do you think that this company will put a store in a place it will not make money? That means they have done the research and think they will have tons of customers that want to save money on the goods they consume.
Please do not use the divide and ridicule strategy on me. I have already heard of it. I am actually saying that we should all be aware of the tactics that will be used to divide us up into small enough groups that we may be marginalized. Since you are on this website I implore you to look at the logic of this thread.

And where would I start with China? They are slaves that must do as the master commands,, Do not kid yourselves , America is not their master, they owe all to the benevolent leadership that keeps most of them fed and some of them alive. Friedman said it best , even the communists in China are greedy and act purely out of self interest,, they just market it better and are very malevolent.

I guess I better weigh in.......

First, almost everywhere in VA. there were battles. Remember, they fought on that ground for most of the war.

Second, I support free enterprise!!!!!!!!! Walmart happens to have a very good way of getting cheaper goods to the people, and that helps most of us. When they were starting, not everything was made in china. Then, we started raising taxes, and have kept raising them. The results are what you see now!!!!!! Businesses closed down because the cost were to high. That only leaves countries that have almost slave labor. Mexico, which sells us all the drugs the idiots can use. And, China, who allows us to spend less...

We might be able to fix it, but we cant while the socialist are in charge!

If ya love free money, rent, and phones, keep voting that way...... If ya hate taxes and love free enterprise, get them out of power!!!!!!
